1. Business Systems Analyst

Houston, TX

COSCO SHIPPING LINES (North America) is looking for a business systems analyst to join the Business Process Management Department onsite at the Houston, TX office.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for the support, maintenance and development of the organization’s global information system and its associated peripheral systems and processes. This position works under limited supervision. Prepares recommendations for new systems, enhancements to existing systems and changes to procedures to improve efficiency and workflow.

• This position requires a good working knowledge of the organization’s global information system and its associated peripheral systems, the organizational structure, and business functions and procedures. This position differs from the Business Systems Manager position in that projects assigned have limited impact on the organization.

Key Activities:

• Prepares recommendations for new systems, enhancements and changes to procedures to improve efficiency and workflow

• Acts as lead on development, design, and implementation of projects with a limited scope

• Analyze and evaluate requests for enhancing existing systems and proposals for new systems and make recommendations to management

• Draft system design requirements and logic specifications for submission to technical development teams under the guidance of senior BPM staff

• Test enhancements and new systems, ensuring proper functionality and compatibility with local business requirements; coordinate with development team to resolve technical problems

• Monitor the implementation of system changes in production and coordinate user acceptance testing

• Write and maintain system documentation, user guides and procedures

• Provide system operational training to staff and system users

• Provide business departments with assistance in resolving computer related problems by troubleshooting and coordinating with IT staff when needed

• EDI communication setup and troubleshooting

• Document system problems and solutions for future reference

• Participate as a team member and lead on inter-departmental and cross-departmental projects with a limited scope

• Monitor and report on data quality; identify and support improvement measures

• Maintain Corporate Performance Monitoring Key Performance Indicators

• Other duties of similar scope as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or a related field and 2 years of experience as a systems analyst or a combination of education or experience that provides and equivalent background required to perform the job functions. Shipping industry experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Three years of experience in 3PL quotation and cost analysis within the logistics industry, specifically in areas such as warehouse management, trucking, customs clearance, and cross-border business across the United States, Mexico, and Canada

Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

General Functions and Key Activities:

Reporting to the Regional Sales Director, the selected individual will be responsible for leading a vertical sales program for out of gauge, specialized and hazardous commodities.

They will coordinate via other Regional Sales Directors and DSMs to support and steer the local sales team in each Region, and to insure they meet and exceed all sales goals.

The Deputy Director will also coordinate with ECD to ensure an adequate inventory of specialized equipment is maintained to support bookings. Hazardous targets will be met by regular interaction with the NAOC hazmat team.

Travel throughout the Regions for direct sales efforts with local sales teams may be required as determined by Sales and Executive Management.

Responsibilities:

Handle correspondence and resolution of issues with terminals, vendors, customs, customers, as well as local and overseas offices.

Manage vessel cleansing and reconciliation tasks, including but not limited to:

Terminal and IRIS reports

Verification of proper route/transshipments

Tracking/tracing of all cargo for POLs handled by NAOC

Trucker troubleshooting

This position plays a key role in evaluating and processing railbills and ensuring seamless vendor communication and compliance with railroad protocols.

Process vendor requests using COSCO’s railbill systems, including IRIS4 and NC23.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    • Knowledge of import documentation and terminal procedures preferred.

    • Strong communication skills across departments and with external partners.

    • Experience with customs processes and EDI transmissions is a plus.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Complete vessel process and monitor vessel checklists.

    • Review FCNs, diversions, and piece count discrepancies.

    • Create Third Party Invoices for services performed on behalf of customers.

    • Manage email and portal ticket communications with internal and external customers.

    • Maintain and monitor customs-related issues.

    • Ensure EDI is transmitted to terminals and proper releases are in place.

    • Monitor IPI rail cargo for timely inland movement.

    • Reconcile discharge reports against import loads.

    • Track overdue containers and issue notices to customers.

    • Notify customers of required exams.

    • Monitor terminal statements.

    • Handle demurrage collections.

    • Serve as liaison between terminals and internal/external customers.

    • Update container routes as necessary.
